Sightseeing is a must too: Zurich has some notable churches, including St. Peter’s, which has the largest clock face in Europe and art lovers will appreciate the Fraumunster’s famed stained glass windows by Marc Chagall.

Shopping is well represented too, whether you’re drawn to the trendy boutiques of the old town, or lured by the luxuries on the Bahnhofstrasse, with its international fashion labels and jewellers.

There are no shortages of good restaurants either, with one for every 180 people.  Non meat eaters need look no further than Hiltl, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Europe.  Those seeking out Zurich’s own culinary specialities will find Zuri Schnitzels (sliced veal with rosti and cream sauce), in many of the city’s dining haunts.  Foodies are also sure to love restaurant Sonnenberg, for its cuisine, as well as its location, overlooking the rooftops of the city.

And if you’re a literature lover, you could even follow in the footsteps of a world-famous writer.  Goethe is said to have enjoyed a drink at Kaisers Reblaube in the Old Town.  While it dates back to 1260, it is known today for innovative and contemporary cooking.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Zurich has a pleasant climate, averaging a comfortable 22 degrees in summer, although it can drop to around -2 in the winter.   The city has plenty to offer business travellers who have time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area: “I’d suggest they take a trip to the top of Zurich’s local mountain, the Uetliberg, where they can enjoy panoramic views of the city,” recommends Helbling.

At nearly 3000 feet above sea level, the Uetliberg is ideal for hikers and is popular even in the coldest, darkest months of the year.  It is a draw in November, when its summit is often above the blanket of fog that can cover the city in late autumn.  It’s also a winter attraction, as the hiking trails to the summit are converted into sledging runs.

Those who enjoy messing around on the water will enjoy boating on 17 mile long Lake Zurich, which flows into the city.  Nature lovers are catered for too: there are numerous parks and gardens in the city centre, such as the Zurich University Botanical Garden and Zurich Zoo, home to 4000 animals from all over the world, is worth a visit.
