A report from AMR Research predicts that supply chain technology will increase at a rate of seven percent annually for the next five years.

The research, published by supply chain technology group AMR Research, states that the supply chain technology market will grow at a rate of seven percent until 2012. This estimates the industry, currently worth US$6.5 billion will become worth US$9.2 billion. As companies seek to cut costs in their supply chains to offset the economic gloom, it is predicted that many will invest in new technological systems to help overall streamlining.

The study names five major factors which will speed this growth: high inflation, rising commodity prices, threats to brand security, sustainability and budgets.

"The supply chain, and the technologies that support it, will play an important role in helping companies deal and thrive in an economy that is going to be quite unlike anything we've seen in the post-war era," said John Fontanella, Vice President of Research at AMR Research.
