This travel experience has been called "The Amazing Race" for real people...
By Dean Tsouvalas
Are you one of those people who watch The Amazing Race and say “I can do that.”
Well here’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is. An innovative travel company, Competitours now allows you to have a similar experience just not on TV. You and a teammate go on a vacation, but from nine to five every day you take part in challenges, record them on video and compete for the grand prize: a worldwide travel spree. The evenings are yours to enjoy...
"This is 'The Amazing Race' for regular people," says Steve Belkin, Competitours' creator, former TV producer and seasoned traveler. "Anybody can do this."
The teams are armed with a Eurail train pass and their own video cameras, teams then travel from one surprise destination to the next, completing about five offbeat challenges a day. They'll upload their videos each night to judges for scoring. The crazier your method for conquering each challenge, the more points you'll rack up and the pair with the most points at the end of the trip wins the grand prize.
Examples of some of the challenges:
* Visit a Viking Ship Museum in Oslo and with the knowedge you've gained, shoot a 30 second mock commercial pitching a 9th century Viking Ship as a vacation option for a 21st century family.
*Go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and recruit and videotape 15 other tourists to do a 30 second rousing rendition of the French national dance, the can-can.
* Visit a Torture Museum in Prague, choose three instruments of torture and shoot a 45-60 second video explaining how each could be used as a non-lethal household item.
* The Berlin Wall remnants are full of graffiti. Become an instant art critic and shoot a 30 second mock interpretation of a meaningless piece of graffiti as a significant piece of art. Be serious, silly, sarcastic, whatever.
