You would hope that a commitment to quality and value comes as standard with any firm. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. Many firms will talk the talk, but sadly not all are able to walk the walk.
Springfield, VA-based Thesis Painting Inc., led by the charismatic Angelo Spyridakis, is one company that most definitely walks the walk. It is committed to quality without compromise. If you doubt that, just ask any number of the firm’s many satisfied customers.
“Basically, they know that if they call us up about something, we’re going to jump all over it and do it well,” says Angelo. “We all like what we’re doing and are motivated to do a good job.”
You’ll probably never meet a man with greater dedication than Angelo. He immigrated to the United States in 1988 and has truly shown what the American Dream is. Angelo always wanted to be in charge of his own destiny and built a company from the ground up. It has since gone from having one employee to becoming a multi-million dollar corporation. “He has shown that hard work and dedication pay off,” explains Jeff Talbert, project director.
Angelo isn’t alone in this quest; he is supported by a strong management team that includes his wife Barbara.
Barbara Spyridakis is the CEO and one of the founders of Thesis Painting and has been a huge force in the industry - and not only for her company. Her key strength is her drive for perfection and innovative ideas. As the world changes, Barbara has taken every opportunity to make sure that Thesis is changing with it.
Maintaining relationships
Why is Thesis a success? “One of the things we really strive to do here at Thesis is to maintain the relationship with our clients,” says Jeff. “We’re always out pursuing new business, but it’s key that we maintain the clientele that we already have, as we refer business to our clients. At present, not only are we trying to increase our volume of sales, we’re trying to increase our clients’ sales. Having a relationship where you create business for the people you work for is paramount.
“I’d like to think it’s our commitment to a high-quality product and customer service,” adds Barbara. “We continue to grow in our business and evolve to have a higher volume of business. We’re probably looking at adding about 20 percent this year; and in a down market to even add one percent – or one-half of a percent – is pretty impressive. Right now we’re on track for about 20 percent.” Impressive indeed.
Branching Out
Angelo, known for his honesty, explains that, like Barbara, he expects the firm to grow: “We want to paint the world,” he says. “As far as expanding goes, we want to do this in an organized way. If something comes up, we’re going to look into everything. We’re doing work on a project in Indiana this week, but we’ve actually established a relationship with a client in this area who does work all over the US.”
Thesis Painting needs more space if it is to handle all of this continued growth. It already has an office in Delaware, as well as an office in Baltimore, but it is actively looking at growing across the US. “We could even expand across Europe – I don’t care, so long as we’ve got the right foundations and the right people working for us, I’m there,” says Angelo.
It certainly is an exciting time for this well-respected firm, which regularly exceeds expectations: “Every year we set goals for the company and every year we’re achieving them. Some years we double business, and we just keep going,” says Angelo, who is also committed very strongly to the environment.
Thesis is a bit of an industry trend-setter when it comes to being LEED-certified. “We are LEED-certified in some areas, but not in all areas as far as the painting goes, so there is room for improvement,” Jeff explains. “But we are striving to make sure that we’re at the front of the industry, because this is where this industry is going. We need to move towards green and it is proven LEED-certified buildings and products outperform their non-green counterparts.”
“We’re looking to be ahead of the game,” adds Angelo.Thesis Painting is strongly committed to the community, working hard to play an active role not just in becoming greener, but also in aiding the communities it serves. “We do a lot for the community,” says Barbara.
Simply the best
Since its founding in 1995, Thesis Painting has won numerous awards, particularly where safety is concerned.
Cleary, mediocrity is not accepted by Thesis, which is well placed for the future. It will always be a company of vision, pioneering new techniques and practices. It strives daily to set new standards by which the entire industry is judged. “The bottom line is that if you’re not willing to work hard and make a perfect product, your place is not here,” says Jeff – a sentiment echoed by both Angelo and Barbara.
