Environmental Waste Controls: No waste of time

Waste management practices differ for developed and developing nations, for urban and rural areas, and for residential, industrial and commercial producers. If any UK practice is to succeed in the waste disposal industry then Environmental Waste Controls plc has proven that it can successfully negotiate these complexities

There are multiple methods in managing waste disposal and in recent decades there has been a focus on reducing the effect waste materials have on the natural world and the environment. Environmental Waste Controls plc (EWC) offers bespoke integrated waste management and recycling solutions to meet the needs of every household and business, offering a range of different products and services. With an extensive client base such as Hilton hotels, Morrisons supermarket and Barclays bank, EWC are no strangers to large organisations.

In 1993, one of the founding partners, Julian Watts introduced a new business concept to one or two business colleagues and friends, including Bill Edwards. The concept was to purchase the most cost effective waste handling systems available to service the commercial worlds fast growing need to preserve the environment, whilst also significantly reducing operating costs now and in the rapidly changing future.

In 1996, following three years of reducing the revenue taken by waste contractors in the UK by increasing their share of the waste machinery market, EWC began guaranteeing the performance of Husmann waste machinery. Three years of surveying waste producers annual costs, tonnages and types of waste had given EWC the experience to be able to guarantee a significantly reduced fixed price for waste segregation, storage, transport and disposal for recycling or landfill.

EWC began purchasing waste handling systems direct from Husmann Gmbh and through the belief of partnership approach, were able to move the company forward successfully, and is now the provider of the most sophisticated and cost effective waste handling systems available. A network of contacts, in particular with the service orientated and ambitious waste service organisations, have enabled EWC to offer an all encompassing waste management.

Waste management

When it comes to setting strategies in organisations the waste hierarchy remains the cornerstone of most waste companies, extracting the maximum practical benefits from products and to generate the minimum amount of waste. Each waste system EWC provides its clients has reduced the companies landfill waste managements bill over and above the cost system, improved the environmental impact of the waste and improved efficiency in the management and disposal of the waste, maximising any benefit accrued from recycling. EWC offer a number of approaches, dealing with the outright purchase of equipment for handling waste management and reconditioning stock and facilities management for equipment, maintenance, segregation, storing, transportation and disposal of waste recycling recover or landfill on a contractual basis. Its benefits through partnership were able to reduce existing waste costs, provide the most efficient machinery at little no cost to the client and add the value to their business in managing their waste problem.

Accreditation

In 2000 EWC was awarded with the ISO Accreditation for the supply of waste handling equipment, fabrication and ancillary equipment, installation, training, contract maintenance and repairs and has been accredited with numerous awards in various categories. These have included outstanding growth performance, contribution to employment, and health and safety assessment scheme. And in 2006 EWC was awarded a certificate which put them in the top 500 of europes fastest growing, job creating companies. On receiving the news, Bill Edwards (Executive Chairman) said: “What is most incredible about this consistent achievement is that it gets harder in each successive year because it is a percentage increase, so the more people you employ, the more people you need to recruit to keep the percentage increase the following year. In 2006 we made 174th, our highest placing yet, and I estimate we will be in the top100 next year. Remember this is a European wide listing and there are over one million companies in the UK alone! Also, take into consideration that this reflects our business activities in 2005. In 2006 we took on Leicester, Glouster, Merthyr Tydfil, Lincoln and won Norfolk, which starts March this year.”

This is an accomplishment EWC are extremely proud to hold. It demonstrates the ability of sustainable growth and reinforces the company’s ambition to become one of the most successful waste management and recycling companies in the UK and Ireland.

Management contracts

The company provide a 24/7 breakdown service for over 600 portable compactors, stationary compactors, balers, waste shredders, bin pushers, drum crushers and other equipment across the UK. It provides its clients with individual waste systems that have been proven to reduce the companies landfill waste management bills over and above the cost of the system. In doing this, they have improved the environmental impact of the waste and efficiency in the management and disposal of the waste.

“EWC believe that every customer is a reference site, and care deeply that the compaction equipment is not only serviceable but more importantly that it maintains high compaction ratios throughout its long life expectancy,” said Edwards.

EWC waste management is a proven success and it is difficult to see the company not continuing in its growth. With its rapid expansion in the waste industry and growing clientele, it’s no wonder that this company has made it into the top 500 fastest growing companies in Europe.
