Geek Out!

Great Gadgets You Might not Know About!

Geek Out!

Okay, I am a geek. I do two things when I meet people I either hide my geekiness, or go right in to a discussion about who would win in a battle between the Cylons and the Daleks. Other times, you can find me surfing the net, checking out the newest gadgets out there. Some of them are down right brilliant, others, are the kind I scream out loud "oh my god I have to have that." And, of course, there are those that are just down right funny, the light saber umbrella comes immediately to mind.

In the competitive world of tech toys, the newest, shiniest, and unheard of win you that extra street cred in techy circles.

Video Goggles for Your IPod and ILife

Several companies have been successful in marketing video goggles for your personal use. These operate on the assumption that you really don't like people looking over your shoulder while you watch the latest episode of Lost, or the daily podcast from your favorite website. You may end up looking like Gordie LaForge, but you know how cool you are. There are several models out there, but the MyVu seems to have the most versatile products out there for this purpose. They also have the best prices, ranging from $99.99 US to $324.85. Not only can these products be used for your IPod, but with the right accessories it will work with any video playback device you may own including your DVD player, or X-Box.

Killing the Book

They said it couldn't be done, and those who still think it hasn't happened yet haven't played with Sony's Book Reader. Living in Canada our choices are made simpler by the fact it is the only book reader available in Canadian markets . All those Amazon vs. Sony discussions are kind of moot. It uses what I like to call "etch-a-sketch technology" to imprint good quality text onto a book sized screen. With upgradeable memory it can carry more books than your standard book self. It reads both major e-book formats and PDFs.

With several versions out, the prices have gone down a bit to about $300. However, I do not see these really catching on until there is more competition out there driving the prices down further. They are still very much worth a look at.

April Fools Joke Gone Good

ThinkGeek.com has always been on the cutting edge of making and distributing great tech toys. This year as an April Fools joke they posted the "Personal Sound Track T-shirt", which promised to provide your life with a movie like sound track. After the joke had run its course customers all but demanded they "make the shirt already". And they did. If you don't like the sound track they include, just pop in a SD memory card loaded with your own MP3s.

Price: $39.99 US
