Pfizer Ltd, the Indian arm of Pfizer Inc, to sell four consumer health brands- Benadryl, Benylin, Caladryl, and Listerine - to Johnson & Johnson Ltd for 2.15 rupees ($55 million).
Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical company will transfer to Johnson & Johnson the exclusive license for trademarks relating to cough syrups Benadryl and Benylin, anti-allergic lotion Caladryl, and Listerine mouth wash and certain related assets, it said in a statement.
Health acquisition
The deal is part of J&J’s $16.6 billion acquisition of Pfizer’s global consumer health business in June 2006.
Pfizer India said all other brands and the consumer health team will continue to be an integral part of Pfizer in India.
“We believe that there is tremendous potential in our brands and business strategies will be put in place to maximise the opportunities and drive growth in the consumer health business,” said Kewal Handa, managing director, Pfizer India.
