Starbucks has announced that it will launch a range of new healthy breakfast foods as it hopes to revive business in the US.

The coffee shop chain will sell oatmeal, multigrain rolls, energy bars, protein plates and apple bran muffins alongside its espresso drinks.

Starbucks has already reduced calories in many of its drinks following complaints about the calorific content of its products. Fats in baked goods have also been lowered.

Speaking to Reuters, Starbucks’ senior nutritionist, Katie Thomson said: “Our customers have been evolving in their health and wellness needs and are now looking for more whole grains, more real fruit, more protein and more fiber, especially for breakfast.”
