The striking looking XF signals a new design and engineering direction for Jaguar, combining the performance of a sports car with the comfort of a long-distance cruiser.

And its coupe aesthetics encompass the family-friendly functionality of a four-door sedan.

A lightweight and rigid chassis makes for superb handling. The standard engine is a 4.2-liter V8 capable of an impressive 0-60 mph performance in 6.2 seconds.

A supercharged version of this engine can achieve 0-60 in a lightning quick 5.1 seconds. V6 and diesel versions - available in the UK - are not expected to be part of the US model mix.

A six-speed automatic transmission features shift-by-wire control, a system designed for rapid and smooth gear shifting.

However, the ‘JaguarDrive Control’ system means drivers can select gears manually via paddles on the steering wheel and can switch from Park to Reverse to Drive and other shift modes via a rotary knob.

This system allows selection of modes that match shift strategies, throttle progression and dynamic stability control settings to mood and conditions.

The XF will be available in the spring, but official US pricing has yet to be announced. The XF starts at £33,900 in the UK, with the V8 available for £44,500, and the Supercharged model retailing at £54,900.

While that roughly equates to US$90, 400 for the V8, the car is expected to be significantly cheaper over here.
