UK Prime Minister pledges support for Wall Street rescue package

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is due to meet Wall Street fund managers for talks on how best to deal with the current global economic crisis.

It is believed the Prime Minister “strongly welcomed” President Bush's plan to rescue the US economy.

Mr Brown is keen to gather support for both President Bush’s Wall Street rescue package and for his own plan to get greater transparency and better international supervision of the global financial system.

Separately, John McCain has suddenly suspended his campaign and called for a delay in tomorrow’s presidential debate to work on a Wall Street Bailout.

McCain is seeking to portray himself as a leader on an issue that polls show has been working against him.
