Yahoo has resumed merger talks with Time Warner

The online search engine has spent the holiday weekend discussing a possible merger with the cable company’s internet arm AOL.

The deal could be worth as much as US$10 billion and comes as Yahoo looks to defend itself from a break-up by Microsoft.

The software giant wants to control Yahoo’s internet search engine so that it can compete more aggressively with Google and seize a bigger slice of the online advertising market.

Yahoo is trying to secure a deal before its shareholders meet to vote on whether to re-elect their board on August 1.
