Ralph Lauren has built an empire off of elite style and taste. His effortless designs have dressed the wealthy and powerful for decades, and chic mogul has done what any genius would do with his massive wealth – he has purchased the coolest cars ever made.
His extensive classic car collection has is so prestigious and notable that the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Les Arts Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris put seventeen of his classic rides on display for the world to ooh and awe over.
However year round ol’ Ralph keeps his cars housed in their car mansion, a massive carpeted garage that looks more like a museum than a place to store aged carburetors. His list of babies are as world renowned as Angelina’s children: Bugatti, Ferrari, Jaguar – Papa Ralph has them all in their most rarefied vintage forms.
Captain Lauren keeps his fancy rusty toys around for a reason, he believes they help inform his creative sensibilities, “I am constantly seeking ideas to impact my creative vision. Cars have always been a rich source of that process. I look at a car and love its highly stylized air vents, a row of steel rivets, a hubcap or a gas cap, a perfectly crafted steering wheel, soft buttery leathery upholstery, a richly polished burl-wood dashboard or the beauty of a leather strap over the hood. I take those details and integrate them into everything I design from a watch to a chair to a woman’s evening dress,” said Ralph.
