Versace for H&M Moderated; Drawing Crowds

Fashion house Versace revealed H&M line but with a number of restrictions, prohibiting mayhem at the international discount retailer

H&M picked up where Target took a misstep – but this time, the European fashion outlet isn’t taking anything for chance. Unlike the latter discount retailer’s massive online outages and backlash when Missoni merchandise appeared in stores, H&M has taken a wildly different approach – setting some serious shopping boundaries.

So if you thought about picking up a present for a girlfriend or two once Versace’s new line of discounted goods appeared at the 300 H&M stores offering the new line, think again.

The Rules of Versace at H&M:

  • Shoppers are provided 15 minutes (in Britain, it’s 10 minutes)
  • Shoppers must receive an official wristband prior to entrance
  • Following receival of wristband, shoppers must only enter at alloted time
  • Purchased items must be only in one size
  • Only one item of each garment must be purchased

The Versace line speaks for itself – like everything H&M offers to its international client base, the materials are high quality and speak volumes about Donatella Versace’s knack for design, even with a modified budget. The line, which still has that signature Versace flare – complete with brilliant fluorescents, a tropical theme and rocker studs (of which Donatella noted all have significant meaning to the history of Versace lines) – will see females, and males, flock to the stores.

“I think it is so exciting for Versace to be made available to everyone. The collection is cool, colourful, young and very hip,” said Uma Thurman during the New York fashion show premiere. Everyone will get their chance to own something November 17, aside from North America customers, who will have to wait until November 19.
