If diving into the pristine waters of Weddell Sea located on Antarctica's peninsula, while surrounded by colonies of Emperor Penguins sounds like a dream come true to you, then congratulations, its official, you are an adventurer of the highest caliber. While most people would think such an idea sounds impossibly insane, or just impossible, one luxury expedition is in business to prove such naysayers wrong, by escorting guests to the world’s wildest continent for some good old fashioned, “Ice snorkeling, iceberg cruising, hiking among penguin colonies and [discovering] historic explorer sites.”
Yes, for 118th the price of a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Wei Long Edition, a mere $11, 150- $17,000 to be exact, you can enjoy an eleven day journey through the Weddell Sea, to cohort with some of the world’s most cherished creatures.
Amos Nachoum, the expedition's leader is one of the most famous nature photographers ever. You may remember his famous shark picture from Spielberg's 'Jaws' poster.
Besides being a Ted Talk lecturer (see below) Nachoum was also the BBC’s wildlife photographer in 2007 and 2008, and his nature features have been featured on National Geographic, the BBC and the Discovery Channel. He also has fourteen years diving experience in the Antarctica region, and will coach travelers on wide-angle and ambient-light photography of big animals while on the journey.
Nachoum says this about his unique concept, “I am proud to say that I have succeeded in putting together an adventure for mere mortals like you and me, emulating the unique style and the heroic productions of BBC and National Geographic teams. We have all been intrigued by the March of the Penguins and the noted BBC production Frozen Planet. I have also, and ever since I have been searching for in-water activities to experience the “Superstar” wildlife of Antarctica. I have found what I was looking for around Snow Hill Island. That is where we find Emperor penguins, Leopard seals and possibly Orcas involved in spectacular predation activity. Snow Hill Island is a remote island located at the heart of the Weddell Sea.”
Scared about the journey’s contact with wild animals? Let Amos Nachoum’s Ted Talk, “No Demons of the Sea” soothe your traveling worries.
