Two years ago, the world was introduced to the first smart phone that utilized Google’s Android operating system, the T-Mobile G1.

Many Android phones since then have boasted abundant features and quick web access, but sometimes, the originator needs to come back and show the copycats how it’s done.

T-Mobile USA, Inc. revealed details and photos of the new T-Mobile G2™ with Google™. Some smart phone users – much like “Twilight” fans – have been salivating over the sequel to the phone that started the Android revolution.

“With the launch of the T-Mobile G2, we are re-teaming with our partners at Google and HTC to provide T-Mobile customers with another first,” said Cole Brodman, chief technology and innovation officer at T-Mobile USA.

The other first Brodman refers to is the phone’s ability to deliver 4G speed on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network which offers speeds of 21 Mbps in more than 55 major metropolitan areas.

The G2 runs on the Android 2.2 OS which offers more than 80,000 applications through the Android Market™. The G2 comes with Google Voice™ that uses one Google number to ring you wherever you are as well as transcribing voicemails to email.

New Voice Actions features of Google Search™ are also pre-loaded onto the phone allowing the user to use their voice to call contacts, send messages, browse the Web and listen to music. More built-in Google services include Gmail™, Google Maps™ with Places and Navigation, YouTube™ and Google Earth™.

Other cool features include an HD video camera for recording high-def videos that can be easily uploaded to a Photobucket account. A 5-megapixel cameral with LED flash and autofocus are also included.

Busy executives on the go can do so easily with support for Microsoft® Exchange e-mail, and teenagers of busy executives will find social networking and instant messaging simple. A pre-installed 8GB microSD memory card (support up to 32 GB) and a music player will get the party going or set the mood at work or home.

“Two years ago, HTC and T-Mobile worked together to deliver the world’s first Android phone,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer of HTC. “With today’s announcement of the G2, HTC and T-Mobile are once again bringing a breakthrough Android product to the market.”

The G2 will be available in the U.S. exclusively, but additional availability news will be coming in later weeks. Current U.S. T-Mobile customers can preorder the G2 later this month. For updates, you can register at T-Mobile’s G2 website (g2.t-mobile.com).
