At Exec Digital, we love a good commercial. The best commercials know how to grab our attention and make their product look desperately cool. That doesn’t take much when the product you’re promoting is the new Motorola Xoom tablet, but that didn’t stop Verizon Wireless from doing a great job. To coincide with the Motorola Xoom launch this week, Verizon Wireless released its first ad supporting the tablet.

Motorola’s own ad for the Motorola Xoom told a futuristic story of rebellion that was also a not-so-subtle dig at the famous Apple “1984” Macintosh ad from long ago. With the Motorola Xoom positioned as the next great iPad killer hope, it’s a clever commentary. The Verizon Wireless ad is similarly futuristic, but in a way that lets the Motorola Xoom stand on its own.

The Verizon Wireless ad, called Vendetta, features a leather jacket-clad cool guy and a Motorola Xoom meeting in the dark of night. When he reaches for the tablet, he is instantly enveloped by a space-age Xoom cocoon. Leather guy’s eyes gleam as he tests out the Android tablet’s functions. Meanwhile, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson lets us in on tantalizing specifics: 1 GHz dual-core processor, 3D graphics engine, gyroscope, and widescreen HD display. The tagline is “grab it and it grabs you,” and while that (probably) won’t involve your own Motorola Xoom cocoon, it should definitely capture your attention all the same.

The Motorola Xoom is now available for $799, but if you sign up for a Verizon Wireless contract you can snag it for a $599. Thanks to some flashiness on Verizon Wireless’ part, we can’t wait to grab one of our own.
