AT&T announced a partnership with Univision Interactive Media to stream two soccer games for AT&T subscribers. Sadly, the World Cup may be over, but plenty of soccer remains to be played.

AT&T’s five-year partnership with Univision Interactive will allow AT&T subscribers to see games featuring two Mexican National Soccer Team games against Ecuador and Columbia in highly anticipated friendlies.

Customers will be able to watch these games on their mobile phones by texting “TRI” to sign-up. The first game against Ecuador will take place on September 4, 2010, and the Mexico match against Columbia happens on September 7. If successful, ten more games will be featured in 2011.

Along with streaming games on phones, AT&T Mobile provides fans with SMS alerts, scores, news and schedules. Once the game is over, fans also have access to highlights of these games in case they missed something due to a phone call from work or friends.

Kevin Conroy, president of Univision Interactive Media revels in the opportunity for providing soccer coverage and believes his company sets an example. "This is yet another example of how we continue to offer our audience comprehensive coverage of worldwide soccer tournaments throughout the year, no matter what device they connect from."

With this partnership, you have to wonder if AT&T will expand this service to cover other leagues and other countries. The excitement of the World Cup always brings a new fan base to the fold, and it’s important to facilitate growth in the sport.

If this experiment is successful, it may not be too much longer before you’re able to stream tons of soccer games spanning several countries.
