Rivalries are all but natural. They’re obviously most prevalent in sports – my favorites being Barclay clubs Liverpool and Everton and the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League. Rivalries also appear in the business world as PC has its Macintosh and Coke has its Pepsi.
Electronic tablets have become one of the newest rivalries as companies try to one up each other. When Apple released the iPad earlier this year, there was the rush for companies to create the “iPad Killer”. Samsung’s GALAXY Tab blasted off to start another great competition for the money in your pocket.
“Samsung recognizes the tremendous growth potential in this newly created market and we believe that the Samsung GALAXY Tab brings a unique and open proposition to market,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business for Samsung Electronics.
EXPLORE THE NEW ELECTRONIC TABLET UNIVERSE
The GALAXY Tab is Samsung’s first attempt at the electronic tablet, and they want the stars to align right away. The tablet runs on Google’s Android 2.2 operating system – another Apple rival.
A 7” display makes the GALAXY Tab a little smaller than the iPad’s almost 10” display, and it’s lighter than the iPod at only 380g. Let’s be honest, though. Size doesn’t matter here. Features do.
Samsung’s GALAXY Tab features the new version of Adobe Flash (10.1) for any new web media you may be browsing while you’re on the go. The tablet connects to the net with 3G connectivity and its built-in Wi-Fi, a must for just about any e-tablet or phone at this point.
You might not have access to iTunes with the GALAXY Tab, but Samsung has that covered with three exclusive applications: Readers Hub for e-books, Music Hub for MP3s and Social Hub which is great for when you want to connect with friends on any social network.
The front facing camera makes it easy to take pictures as well as make the GALAXY Tab useful for programs like Skype if you want to place a video call.
The GALAXY Tab will be released in Europe later on this month and will hit other markets later this year. There is plenty of information about the GALAXY Tab at the products website, galaxytab.samsungmobile.com.
Hopefully, the GALAXY Tab can live up to the promise of being an "iPad Killer". Exec Digital has a guide with more iPad killers if you choose to stray away from Apple when it comes to getting an e-tablet.
